Sometimes your mind likes to speak for itself or finish a sentence.
Example #1: Tonight, I got a milkshake at Chick-Fil-A. As I was grabbing the milkshake from the gal at the drive-through window she added, “would you like any sauce with that?”
I can only imagine how good my shake would taste with some Chick-Fil-A or Buffalo sauce! As I drove away it reminded me of times I had really just like my mind go. Maybe I worked myself too hard? Here’s a time I am not to proud of:
It had been a long day. I was working at Pump It Up at the time in Cumming. I was a shift-manager for the company, which meant I was in charge of the place and spent most of the time at the front desk at the register or on the phone. Lately, we had been calling churches, schools, day-cares and any other facilities that had to do with kids. We were trying to get them to book a party at our place and it was just one part of our marketing strategy. I had been through about 20 churches and preschools that day and my mind was at its capacity. I hated marketing calls and I was hoping every time to get a voicemail or somehow make it a quick conversation. Half the people that picked up were churches that were run by people way past their prime and could probably had never touched the world wide web. Somewhere in the list, and towards the end of my work day, I ended up having to leave a voicemail for someone. It was either a potential client, a final check-in call for a party the next day, or a pizza order for Papa Johns. All that matters is what was said at the end of the voicemail. It went something like this . . .
“Hi, this is Trent from Pump It Up. Sorry I missed you! I just wanted to let you know about all our party options. Your party will be fully private, which means you will have the whole arena to yourselves. All we ask is that you tell your guests to bring their socks and a signed waiver for them to jump. We ask that you bring cake, ice-cream, and any dry food items. We don’t allow any other foods at our parties, however, you can order Papa Johns pizza through us. Some of our party options are balloons and goodie bags. If you would like to give us a call please call us at 111-111-1111. Thanks, in Jesus name I Pray. Amen.“
As soon as those last words came out, I was speechless, and with a grunt I slammed the phone down. Immediately I about fell to the floor in laughter. It really had been a long day.
Have you ever had those moments where your mind just speaks for itself?
Maybe it is telling you what you need to hear?
Ending that voicemail in a prayer, while hilarious, was a cry from the inner-me and the Holy Spirit saying, “rest!” I needed a break! I needed some quiet time! I needed to stop and be still.
Maybe when you notice little flops in your actions like mine, it is a sign that you need to slow down and listen to what your heart, mind and soul are telling you. Maybe it is your health, your spiritual life or your need for a good nights rest. Whatever the reason, if you find your body struggling like my mind and mouth were that day, that is usually a sign that you need to take care of yourself.
Have a Relaxing Day. . . In Jesus name I pray, Amen!
